Daniel J. Scoppetta, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dan is the founder of GASP. Dan did his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, attended medical school at the University of CT and completed his residency in General Surgery at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT. After his residency he went directly into private practice in Bristol, CT where he cared for patients in a community hospital setting. Dan is recently retired after 40 years of active clinical practice at Bristol Hospital, where he assumed various roles, most notably Chief of General Surgery, Chief of Surgery, and Chief of Medical Staff.
For many years prior to focusing on medicals missions to Jeremie, Haiti, Dan traveled around the world doing medical missions for various nonprofit groups. For the last several years Dan has been focusing on volunteer surgical efforts in the southern peninsula of Haiti.
Dan’s goal is “to apply our surgical skills where needed and mentor Haitian surgeons to be skilled and independent.” Together with our local partners, Dan is developing templates, procedures, manuals and guidelines for future generations of both in country and volunteer surgical teams. Dan brings a culture of compassion, continuous improvement and striving for excellence into every aspect of a GASP mission trip to Haiti.
James T. Sayre, M.D., F.A.C.S., Assistant Clinical Professor, University of CT
Jim did his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, attended medical school at New York Medical College in NYC and completed a residency in General Surgery at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT. After his residency, he joined the faculty of the University of CT Medical School, where he worked for four years before joining Dan in private practice in Bristol, CT. Jim has held various positions during his 35 years at Bristol Hospital, including Chief of General Surgery. He currently serves as Director of the Bristol Hospital Beekley Breast Center. Jim is the constant professor. He currently teaches the surgical P.A.s rotating through Bristol Hospital from Yale, Quinnipiac and St. Joseph’s University’s. Jim teaches anatomy to first year medical students when drafted by UCONN medical school faculty.
Jim joined Dan on his maiden trip to Jeremie, Haiti in 2016 and has been regular traveler to Jeremie ever since. Jim’s goal is to provide necessary surgical care in Jeremie and eventually make his services unnecessary as Jeremie’s local surgeon becomes autonomous.
Jim inspires a culture of continuous learning and passion for teaching among everyone working in the operating room during GASP mission trips to Jeremie.
Jim is married with three adult children.
Vic Eanniello, II, M.D.
Vic did his undergraduate studies at the University of CT, graduating with a B.A in Psychology and a B.S. in Biology, followed by receiving his M.D. from the Ross School of Medicine. Vic did a two-year residency in General Surgery at Harford Hospital/University of CT, Hartford CT, followed by a one-year Fellowship in Emergency Medicine at Hartford Hospital, followed by completing a three-year residency in Anesthesiology at Hartford Hospital in 1995. Vic has been an attending anesthesiologist since 1995.
Vic has been with GASP since 2018 and has been a regular volunteer physician ever since.
Vic has been married to the lovely Mary Kate for 32 years, has three adult children, 5 dogs, 2 cats and more fish than he can count.
